Why am I starting a blog? My main reason is that I want to spend more time writing and a blog seems like a good way to do that. For most of my adult life, writing was one of my daily activities (even if it was just taking notes at a meeting or filling in some dates and names on a pre-formatted motion). But now I'm out of school, out of the workforce, and I'm just not the journaling type, so my writing consists of updating my Facebook status and sending my mom texts. I would like to be writing more because I think it's good for my brain and good for my soul. I hope that it can also be a way to stay in better touch with any of you who choose to read the blog, and possibly a way to start conversations.
The topics will be split between family blogging (ie news and stories from our family, thoughts on parenting (including special needs parenting), and of course pictures and videos of the kids) and non-family blogging (my interests are Christianity, politics / current events / social justice, pop culture, books, and recipes, so it will probably be a mix of posts on those things). The blog will probably be parenting post heavy, since that is the major task of my life right now. So in other words: a lot like what I already do on Facebook, but in an expanded format.
In case someone should happen to stumble upon this blog who doesn't know anything about me or my family, here's a quick bio: I grew up in Nebraska, went to college and law school on the East coast (and spent a tweener year being a hippie and learning about poverty in Colorado), married the love of my life, and worked for two fantastic public interest law firms. Now we live in Virginia Beach and I'm a stay at home mom to our two kids: my son Joshua (age 2.5, has Pierre Robin Sequence, and has a delightful personality), and my daughter Zoey (age 8 months, currently into squirming and grabbing, has a smile that lights up the room).
